So I have been debating if I should write this or not for a couple of weeks now. Recently I have seen an all-time high in basic douche baggery. Before I go on I can’t take full credit for this type of post. I saw a fantasy owner in another league I play in post most of this list a few years ago and he was dead on.
Before we begin with situations, basic etiquette of a fantasy owners and other comments, I want to give a disclaimer. Do NOT continue if you don’t have thick skin, or you’re a cry baby and think anything posted is about you directly, or you can’t take criticism because you’re a man child. Stop now click the X in the upper right counter of this site and go on your way. I would also like to say none of these comments/topics are directed at any one owner. If you feel comments fit your activity directly maybe you should be man enough to admit that and change your actions for the better of the league.
1. Did I mention you should have thick skin? When you agree to play fantasy baseball you’re agreeing to join a competition. In competitions you have competitiveness and naturally people are trying to beat you. If you want to play fantasy sports and you have no drive to compete or win I suggest you tell the LM your done and go join a Pokémon forum so everyone can pat you on the back for doing nothing and everyone is super nice. Yea!
2. Chat Forums. Not all FB (fantasy baseball) sites have a front page chat forum. Ours does, yet many owners are confused what its main purpose is for. The main purpose of the chat forum (and I know this is shocking to some) is to talk fantasy baseball and or talk trades. If you want to again have someone rub your back and tell you how great you’re doing the LM has given you your very own team post on the Proboards site. There you can post all kinds of dumb stuff and get other owners to react to it that has nothing to do with FB or your teams future.
3. Why did you log into the chat forum? I ask myself this question about 15 times a day and it seems other owners whom I spoken to feel the same way. If you sit in the chat forum it basically means your open for business. You’re willing to talk fantasy baseball or talk trades. If you’re not get off the site and go to the proboards site and hang out there. Owners have responded saying “I’m not willing to talk trades” or “im busy right now” when spoken to on the chat forum. Don’t log in if you’re not willing to speak with other owners! Do us all a favor who have mistaken you for someone who wants to engage in fantasy baseball and get off the site! It’s like standing in line to buy something and when you get to the counter you yell at the cashier for asking you what you want…
4. Ghost log offs. Let me explain what a ghost log off is. When you’re whispered or directly spoken to instead of being an adult and answering the team you instead log off so you don’t have to answer. This is an action my 9yr old son would do. Again if you don’t want to talk to owners DON’T LOG ON THE SITE! Logging off with no answer tells several things about you. 1. You don’t know your team or fantasy baseball enough to answer questions about your team. 2. Your just an ass-hole who can’t take 15 sec to say something like “Hey man im not moving any guys right now but thanks for the interest” 3. The fact you logged off 10 sec after being asked a question shows you’re on and you’re not fooling anyone but yourself. Yes we know it’s not a coincidence you logged off when spoken to. If this is you should go read #’s 1-2 again at this time. Avoiding owners is childish and completely against why we play fantasy baseball. You may be saying “well I don’t like owner X and that’s why I ghost log on him or don’t respond”. Cool then be a man and say to that owner “Hey thanks for your interest but you don’t have anything I want to trade for. If that changes I will let you know”. That’s how big boys handle that situation.
5. Not responding to trades even though you’re active. Several owners will log onto the site even though they have a pending trade for several days. Again why are you playing fantasy baseball?? Go play the minor league of fantasy sports fantasy football where you only have to touch your team once a week and my sister in law will be competing with you. Fantasy baseball is almost a daily commitment. As in once a day you have to check/ alter your lineup, respond to or send trades, check the free agency players, review proboards for actions or LM post at a minimum. If this sounds like too much please do us all a favor and go tell OAK you want to leave the league for something easier.
6. Giving no answer or feedback on offers. If an owner takes the time to craft a deal + a message about the trade and send it to you, you owe them a response. This is proper fantasy baseball etiquette. I have watched teams bitch about offers they have received and that same team never gives any feedback on offers. How the hell are teams supposed to understand what you want or are looking for when you don’t respond at all and all you do is click decline? Do you have to give a counter offer? No. But how hard is it to say something like “Not enough for me to move player X thanks” or “I am looking for a strong SP not a hitter, thanks”. When you don’t answer it shows you don’t know your team enough to comment or counter properly, or your lazy, or both. Again why did you sign up to play a DYNASTY baseball league if you’re not willing to talk baseball with other teams?
Again if any this bothers you grow some thick skin. It’s not intended to attack anyone and I only bring this up because several owners have expressed the same thoughts and feelings. It’s intended to help our league be more active and teach owners how to interact with each other as well as what level of activity is Required to play fantasy baseball.
