Cubs fans were flying high going into the weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds and @brandonl . Their spirits were soon crushed once again to dismal offensive play.
On Friday the Cubs managed a split going 1-1. Winning against the crosstown rival White Sox du to a decent but not great start from their Ace Chris Archer. Jonathan Villar broke out with an 8.2 point performance. That was enough to beat the White Sox whose own hitters were silenced aside from Lonnie Chisenhall who hit a grand slam to come away with 9 points. However the cubs fell once again to Dallas Keuchal. He had a dominating performance against the Cubbies and the Reds lineup has been on fire. Keuchel gave the Reds 23 points and their hitters only had one guy in the negatives. Brandon Crawford led the way with 8.2 points.
On saturday the cubs got another substandard start from 2nd year pitcher Zach Davies who could only manage 5 points. However Davies outscored the Cubs hitters 5-3.6. The Cubs struck out an amazing 12 times on saturday. you are not going to beat many teams by not putting the ball in play. While the cubs offense was putting up 3.6 points White Sox and Cincinnati hitters put up 53.5 and 32.3 respectively.
Sunday was more of the same as Cubs pitcher Charlie Morton was pushed back a day and the hitters once again struggled. The only bright spot was Shin Soo-Choo who provided 12 of the 13.6 points. While once again watching opponent hitters going for 31.5 and 20.5.
The Cubs went 1-5 and struckout 26 times over the weekend. This has added to their league leading total of 125 strikeouts in 16 matchups. The Cubs take on the Milwaukee Brewers in a 3 game series Tuesday-Thursday.
Probable Pitchers:
Tuesday TBD (Foltynewicz or Freeland)
Wednesday Chris Archer
Thursday Zach Davies
