Yankees Trade: OF Brayan Hernandez MIA .2 2B Jake Noll WAS .2 Reds Trade: SS Brandon Crawford SF 8/2017 15/2018 15/2019 15/2020 15/2021 UFA/2022
NOTE: Reds Take on 5 MIL of Crawford's contract in 2020 and 2021
Reason for Trade: Chris Owings fractured his finger, so I needed to upgrade my offense. However, I do have Many Pina who I could slot into the lineup instead of Owings, but that would be a downgrade by about .3 PPG. I didn't want to overpay for such a small upgrade, but this trade allows me to improve my team at a fair price. I dont give up too much, though Hernandez is a high-upside prospect, while Reds can get some salary relief. Noll is added as 2B depth for the Reds; he isn't highly ranked but has held his own in the minors so far.
UPDATE: After consulting with Justin, it has been clarified that under this rule "You may trade salary cap, upwards of 10m per season. Once you trade 10m dollars, you're done. (Ex. Oakland trades 5m in cap to Atlanta, and then Oakland receives 5m in cap from Minnesota. That is Oakland's 10m dollars for the season)" we can trade up to 10 MIL in cap space. Since all other trades Reds and I have made that involved cash considerations this season, had that cash be contract coverage, and not cap coverage, we are free to trade up to 10 MIL in cap space in this trade, and that is what we have done.

I accept, this was more of a future move for me. Needed to get rid of his contract and I got Peraza and Cozart at SS right now for my playoff run so Crawford was expendable for me.

Updated, 5 MIL in coverage, rather than 7 in 2020 and 2021. Justification under League Rules included, this change has received the approval of the commissioner's office.
