The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres meet in game one of a three game NL West division(world series rings for sale) set from Petco Park on Monday.
The San Francisco Giants(cheap San Francisco Giants championship rings) will look to build some momentum after earning a split with a 10-4 win in the finale of their four game set on Sunday. Kevin Pillar went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double and five RBIs while Mike Yastrzemski had a double and two RBIs. Evan Longoria, Joe Panik and Pablo Sandoval each had an RBI to finish off San Fran’s scoring as a team in the win. Buster Posey went 3 for 3 with a double and Brandon Belt added a double of his own while Donovan Solano and Alex Dickerson each had a base hit as well in the victory. Madison Bumgarner got the win to improve to 5-7 on the year after allowing one run on four hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work. Jeff Samardzija will start game one and is 4-7 with a 4.52 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. In his career, Samardzija is 8-3 with a 3.46 ERA and 102 strikeouts against the Padres.
The San Diego Padres will look to rebound after losing their series finale with the St. Louis Cardinals by a final score of 5-3 on Sunday. Manny Machado had a home run and two RBIs while Eric Hosmer went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI to round out San Diego’s scoring as a team in the loss. Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2 for 5 while Franmil Reyes, Josh Naylor, Greg Garcia and Austin Hedges each had base hits as well in the defeat. Joey Lucchesi gave up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Brad Wieck took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year. Logan Allen will start game one and is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Allen’s first career start against San Francisco.
San Francisco(championship rings) is 2-7 in Samardzija’s last 9 starts and 7-21 in their last 28 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. San Diego is 5-1 in their last 6 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 series opening matchups while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 Monday games. San Francisco is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in San Diego.
Plus money with the Giants is kind of tempting, considering how much success Samardzija has had in his career against the Padres. However, Samardzija has allowed four or more runs in five of his last seven starts and Allen has had a strong start to his major league career. While the Padres are a streaky team and could be in for a disappointing start to this set, I’ll take my chances on the rookie and lay the juice with San Diego here.
