Hey everyone. Wanted to give you guys an update on the schedule and how it is laid out. We will have a 162 game regular season from April 8th - September 7th. Playoffs will be from September 9th - October 5th.
Playoffs will follow the MLB structure where 12 teams will qualify. We will have a best 2 out of 3 Wild Card round (top 2 division winners in each league get byes). Best 3 out of 5 Divisional round, best 4 out of 7 League Championship, and best 4 out of 7 World Series.
Keeping with previous years, we will only have games on days where there are at least 10 MLB games being played. Unfortunately, this means we will start on Friday, April 8th, not Thursday April 7th since there are only 9 games on Thursday April 7th, and there are 11 games on April 8th. It sucks starting the year on a day where not every team plays, but it’s the best we can do in the situation. Before anyone complains about missing a starting pitcher on April 7th or one of your guys hitting a HR, please remember, ITS A LONG SEASON! It is inevitable that at some point this year, everyone will have their best starter pitching on a bye day or one of your hitters having a huge day on our day off. Shit happens.
Matchmaking. Every team will play each team in their division 15 times, will play each team in their league 6 times, and will play 14 out of the 15 teams in the other league 3 times. The only team you will not be playing is the team in the other league that finished inversely in the standings to you in 2021. For example, the teams that finished with the best record in each league last year will not play the teams that finished with the worst record in the opposite league. 2nd best record will not play the 14th place team in the opposite league, and so on and so on.
On to the actual schedule. Trying something different and also following real life, we will play 3 game series throughout the year. When you play someone, you will play them 3 days in a row. I think this could be a fun way to add some competitiveness within the season. There are 54 three game series in the season. We will have 10 doubleheader series throughout the year where you will play 2 teams at once, just like in previous seasons. I have set it so all doubleheader series will occur in three game stretches were all 30 MLB teams play on those days.
Lastly, I will be updating the schedule on Fantrax over the next few days. I have all the matchups already set in a spreadsheet. I have made it so everyone will start and end the season with mostly division matchups. I feel that should help set the tone to start the year playing mostly teams in your own division. Ending the year with mostly divisional matchups is big as well since division races and wild card spots will be on the line. Let the trash talk flow!
Apologies for this post being very long but in the interest of full disclosure I wanted to let you all know what’s up. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding any of this. Thanks!
